“What I like about Propello
is its completeness”

Julie Fleming, Business and Economics Teacher, shares how Propello has
supported teaching and learning in her school

Why did you choose Propello?

I think Propello offers a really wide range of activities, assessments, and interactive content that can meet the needs of all students. I’ve found it particularly valuable in supporting students who need extra help or additional stretch and challenge. It’s been a real time-saver when it comes to planning and having the right resources ready, which is one of the main reasons I’ve really enjoyed using it.

How do you use Propello in the classroom?

When planning a topic, I think about how I taught it previously and what needs to be adapted or improved. I then use Propello to fill any gaps – sometimes it provides a complete solution, other times a useful case study or thoughtful questions. I can then blend these resources with my own materials.

It’s also helpful for supporting learning outside of the classroom, whether that’s pre-reading to prepare students for the lesson or homework to consolidate learning.

How has Propello helped your students engage with the curriculum?

My students have found Propello especially helpful for revision. The fact that it’s online, and highly visual, engages learners who might not respond to paper-based materials. Many of my students use laptops in class, so being able to continue that way at home provides consistency, but for those without regular access to a device, the printable documents offer an alternative.

We do have students who can become overwhelmed and find managing their workload stressful. For those students Propello’s bite-sized content has helped them feel more in control of their learning and as a result has helped them improve their scores. They feel more confident and are therefore more likely to challenge themselves to do more.

What aspect of Propello has been most helpful to you?

The case studies have been incredibly useful. Staying relevant is something that is quite tricky to do, and we often fall back on the same old favourites – there’s only so many times you can do trainers… Propello has saved me time by offering a wide range of business types that appeal to different learners. They’re thoughtfully chosen – not the obvious ones or particularly gendered – which makes it easier for my students to engage with them and relate to them.

What do your students find most enjoyable about using Propello?

My students really like being able to type their answers – it’s more approachable for them than pages of written exam questions, which can be overwhelming. They enjoy the interactive features like drag-and-drop tasks and the amount of variety there is in how they engage with content. Because it’s tailored to their specific GCSE and exam board, they can easily find and focus on the exact topics they need, without having to hunt around.

How have the SEND features supported your students?

Some of my students use the Immersive Reader during independent study sessions to have text read aloud – something many prefer over reading themselves. It’s particularly helpful for EAL learners, who recognise spoken vocabulary more easily than written words. Some students also use the feature to simplify or shorten text, allowing them to focus on key points and making the content more manageable and accessible.

Would you recommend Propello?

I’d definitely recommend Propello. What I like about Propello is its completeness. Unlike other systems that only offer part of what you need, Propello provides everything I’m looking for – it’s all there, easy to access, and simple to use – I think it would benefit a wide range of teachers at different levels.
